Monthly Archives: February 2018

In under a year, WA’s Good Doogs have taken the West by storm. Forming in April 2017, they have already released a debut EP featuring singles “Tried My Best” and “Blue Skies, Wet Dreams” which have been featured by STAB Magazine, Pilerats, and major surf brand Rusty, as well as rotation on triple j unearthed, and RTRFM.

They then sold out venues in Mandurah and Perth, leading to a string of support slots for some of the best names in Australian indie-rock – Skegss, Ruby Fields, Good Boy, The Gooch Palms and Bleeding Knees Club.

They also recently sold out their second EVER headline show – cramming in (you guessed it) 420 patrons – in Fremantle, as well as being added to triple j spot rotation and featured on Spotify’s Local Noiseplaylist.

Step aside, The Doogs are now coming East.

New single “Nothing To Do” is an anthem for hot summer days when school is out and the surf is weak. It’s about hanging out with your mates and wasting time.

The video (filmed and edited by Emma Smart) plays on the theme – showing the boys on an adventure in the hot summer sun, looking for something to do.

The Doogs are shaping up to be a major player in the surf-rock movement in Australia, jump aboard the ground swell of fun that seems to be following them. Don’t kook it.

Sweden’s premiere purveyors of thrash metal meets sleaze rock, Hardcore Superstar will be touring Australia this June!
Having last toured Australia waaay back in 2008, HCSS are ready to make it up to their fans for a decade of lost time in a big way!
Fusing a base of hard, aggressive heavy metal with the catchy, melodic and decadent hard rock of glam’s glory days, Hardcore Superstar’s self coined ‘street metal’ is made for the stage!
It’s music from the heart. Fist pumping, anthemic rock with tasty licks, big bass and bigger drums!
The band will be bringing all their bombastic hits like Wild BoysBeg For It, Above The LawC’mon Take On Me that will get the room shaking as well as their expert level power ballads like Someone Special and Standing On The Verge which will have phones (and some old school lighters) in the air.
***
Busting out of Gothenburg with their 1998 debut album, Superstar gave a respectful nod to the generation of LA rockers who came before them while mixing it up with their current day contemporaries.
The result was It’s Only Rock N’ Roll and it can be confidently called a game changer, giving birth to a whole new hybrid genre.
From there the band delved into the American classic rock sound of the 70’s paying homage to the bands that influenced the bands that influenced them!
Now armed with some vintage rock vibes to add to their thrash/glam arsenal, HCSS became an even greater force to be reckoned with, opening up for AC/DC across Europe.
By the mid 2000’s the band moved slightly away from their core sound and dabbled in some Brit rock and Misfits style punk before circumstances lead to them going on an extended hiatus.
During the break the guys worked on restoring a house that one of them inherited. Blasting out Appetite For DestructionDr Feelgood and Among The Living on repeat and with a cheeky grin, they knew what needed to be done.
They went back to their roots and refined their sound to be the bastard child of them all and that’s been the Hardcore Superstar way ever since!
With a their recently released single, Have Mercy On Me, from album number 11, You Can’t Kill My Rock ‘N Roll due in September this year, Hardcore Superstar in 2018 are as potent as ever.
Four tattooed guys in denim and leather, rocking out like brothers hellbent on a good time.
Come and join the fun!

Youth Code is collision of nasty industrial darkness, body-slamming electronic beats, extreme metal sensibilities, and hardcore punk angst – a proposition to many previously unknown, to others one that is simply being revitalized. Nonetheless, the duo of Sara Taylor and Ryan George bring a savage and intuitive approach that has rapidly garnered the band attention in multiple underground scenes. One only has to look over the intensely varied list of artists the group has toured in support of across their six fruitful years – Deafheaven, Code Orange, Skinny Puppy, Chelsea Wolfe, AFI, and Carpenter Brut to name a handful – to recognize the level of subversiveness under which Youth Code operates.

Firing off the back of 2016’s acclaimed Commitment To Complications album, April 2018 will see Youth Code make their long-awaited live debut down under on a string of shows designed to challenge and confront. The band will appear at the landmark ‘Dali Land’ Salvador Dali art exhibition in Perth, before taking on Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

Joining them will be Melbourne’s Kollaps – a three piece of harsh industrial noise and encompassing gloom currently riding low all over the world off the back of 2017’s Sibling Lovers full-length. Having just released her impressive new ‘Pressure Drop’ single, the cathartic and noxious techno of Brisbane’s Rebel Yell will open the package.

THU APRIL 26 – CROWBAR, BRISBANE
FRI APRIL 27 – THE CHIPPO HOTEL, SYDNEY
SAT APRIL 28 – THE EVELYN HOTEL, MELBOURNE

NUMENOREAN have entered  the studio of producer Josh Schroeder (GHOST BATH, FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS, BATTLECROSS) in Midland, Michigan, USA to record the follow-up for their acclaimed debut album, ‘Home’ (2016).  The sophomore full-length of the Canadian post-black metal explorers will be entitled ‘Adore’.

Never judge a book by its cover – this adage might easily be applied to the debut full-length of NUMENOREAN. The Canadian post-black metal act has crafted a musical masterpiece that embraces beauty, harshness, brutality, and melancholy in equal measure and transforms those ingredients into breathtaking melodies and riffs.

NUMENOREAN have achieved far more with their debut than just following a musical path pioneered by DEAFHEAVEN, ALCEST, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, and DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT. This album challenges to delve deeper, to get lost in feverish dreams, while its haunting beauty beckons to again and again come… ‘Home’.

NUMENOREAN were founded by Brandon and Byron Lemley in Canada’s most northern major city, Calgary as a sole expression for the discontentment of existence in 2012. The brothers released a two song demo under the title ‘Demo 2014’ to strong critical acclaim. New members were recruited, who shared a closeness to sorrow, nature, and grief. Once their line-up was completed, each member contributed to the making of the forthcoming full-length, which was released on the 22nd of July, 2016.

Fresh out of Studio Necromorbus (Malign, Mayhem, Funeral Mist & Watain), with Tore Stjerna behind the production you can expect a first class production. The song “Communion Amid the Graves” is taken from VOODUS upcoming debut album “Into the Wild”, scheduled for official release through Shadow Records during 2018 (distributed & marketed by Regain Records).

For fans of Ophthalamia, Dissection and early Watain.

After a completely SOLD OUT Australian Tour of epic proportions in 2015, Heavy Metal Icons MACHINE HEAD are set to make their triumphant return in 2018 and this time around they will be armed with their new album ‘Catharsis’ which entered the Australian ARIA Charts at Number 10.

MACHINE HEAD have flown the flag for truth, integrity and creative desire in metal, starting with the earth-shattering prescience of 1994’s classic ‘Burn My Eyes’ and continuing through to 2014’s ‘Bloodstone & Diamonds, producing a series of albums that consistently redefined the very notion of heaviness and music while upholding an invigorating lyrical narrative that has turned the band into one of the few in modern times that can boast an unbreakable connection with the hearts and minds of the metal faithful.

With 7 Top 30 ARIA charting Albums and monstrous heavy weight songs like “Locust”, “Imperium”, “Now We Die’’, “Halo”, ‘’Aesthetics of Hate’’, ‘’Ten Ton Hammer’’ plus many more, it’s no wonder their Australian fan-base are chanting for their return. Machine Head shows are the next level of live experience. Front-man Robb Flynn is one of the most charismatic front-men in the world and they have towered above the competition with a ruthless determination and dedication to the cause.

MACHINE HEAD live show is as much about the crowd as it is about the band. MACHINE HEAD do not just perform and leave – you’re in for highly energetic show, with bodies flying everywhere! Prepare yourselves to be bludgeoned by a wall of sound and leave the venue with ears ringing, voice boxes shredded and bodies crushed. MACHINE HEAD obliterates any notion that veteran bands can’t sustain their passion and intensity while also setting a new standard for sonic destruction and virility along the way.

Don’t miss the return of the mighty Machine Head to Australia.
