Starry Eyes Poster

Monster Pictures, Australia’s leading distributor of horror and genre films is proud to announce the release on DVD & BluRay of STARRY EYES, the winner of ‘Best Film‘ at the 2014 Monster Fest.

To celebrate its release, Monster Pictures, in association with Backlot Studios, is hosting a special event screening of the film on Friday 13th of March in Melbourne, Australia.

The special event screening will also include a live Skype Q&A session with the star of the film, award winning actor Alex Essoe, along with giveaways, prizes and more.

A ticket is included with every pre-ordered copy of STARRY EYES from the Monster Pictures website and Monster will also have other new release DVDs and BluRays available on the night for only $10 each!

“Recently we have seen one of our biggest releases become the most pirated Australian film ever”, said Neil Foley, Director of Monster Pictures, referring to the acclaimed JOHN DOE: VIGILANTE. “By putting on special event screenings we are trying to counter the pirating culture by providing true genre fans with an opportunity to do more than just watch the films. We want the fans to engage with how these films should be experienced and provide screening events that elevate the genre”, he continued.

The STARRY EYES screening is the first in a series of new releases that will be shown on the 13th of every month at Backlot Studios as part of the ‘Monster Fest Presents’ program.

April will see the amazing HONEYMOON screened, followed by LET US PREY in May, CHARLIE’S FARM in June, THE EDITOR in July and WHITE SETTLERS in August.

“Backlot is committed to providing filmmakers and distributors with the best opportunities to have their films seen as they were intended”, said Tony Ianiro of Backlot Studios. “We are proud to partner with Monster Pictures to put on the Monster Fest Presents nights as everyone benefits – the filmmakers, the distributors and most of all the genre fans, as they get to experience the films in the best way possible and enjoy the special events that the Monster team are putting together”, he continued.

“We expect Monster Fest Presents: STARRY EYES to sell out, as not only is it a fantastic film, but fans will want the opportunity of speaking with Alex Essoe in the intimate and luxurious surroundings of Backlot Studios”, said David Leadbetter, Monster Fest National Marketing Manager. “The ongoing season of Monster Fest Presents is going to create an important monthly genre film night in Melbourne and we are excited about the next Monster Fest film festival, scheduled for November 2015”. he continued.

Tickets are strictly limited. 1 ticket per copy of STARRY EYES purchased on the website, available for collection from Backlot on the night. An extra ticket to the STARRY EYES screening is available when purchasing the other fantastic March release, THERE’S SOMETHING IN THE PILLIGA.

Charlie's Farm Poster

Summary: For four friends it is supposed to be a weekend of fun… and of course love. Jason (Dean Kirkwright) and Natasha (Tara Reid) are a steady couple… although she thinks he can be a bit of an idiot sometimes. While Jason’s friend Donkey (Sam Coward) plans on using the weekend as a way to impress Melanie (Alliara Jacques).

The quartet decide to head to the legendary Charlie’s Farm, a farm that is was once the scene of a tragic murder spree instigated by John Wilson (Bill Moseley) who was then murdered by the town’s folk who were tired of the district getting a bad name for the number of backpackers who were going missing in the area.

While the four believe they may be able to find a few things of value at the farm to sell what they don’t expect to confront is John’s mentally disturbed son Charlie (Nathan Jones) who has called the property home since that bloody night.

OUR CHARLIE’S FARM REVIEWS & RATINGS:

David Griffiths:

A lot of people seem to love being able to stick their boot into the Australian film industry at the moment. They can say what they will but it hasn’t prevented Australia from making some pretty decent films over the years. One of the genres that Australian filmmakers have excelled at over the years has been the horror genre. From the Ozploitation films of the 1970s and 1980s through to more modern day films like the underrated Cut that actually became a successful film in Europe, even the team behind the popular Saw franchise and all of its off-shoots also hail from Down Under.

One Australian genre director who has really been somebody to watch over the past few years has been writer/director/producer Chris Sun whose first two feature films, Daddy’s Little Girl and Come And Get Me, had many people labelling him as the next-big-thing. Given that he has also built up one of the best horror effects companies in the world (not just Australia) and it was easy to see why it was only a matter of time before he created an absolute horror gem. Now that may have arrived with Charlie’s Film a film that is going to be lapped up by those who have enjoyed films like Storm Warning… and once again reminds horror fans right around the world just how nasty Australian horror can be.

As a film itself Charlie’s Farm doesn’t bring much new to the genre. It is your standard slash, impale, crush and whatever style of horror but it is the fact that the film seems to elevate itself into the higher realm of this genre alongside the films of Rob Zombie that should fans of Australian cinema very excited. This is a return to good old fashioned horror that has audiences hollering in the cinema and you know it’s going to be lapped up by those that enjoy their horror on the hardcore side.

One of the most impressive things about Charlie’s Farm is that Chris Sun has built up such a reputation in the horror genre that he has been able to build up an absolute top notch horror cast. Alongside gifted locals like Dean Kirkwright (who shows enough to suggest he has big things ahead of him), Allira Jacques (who is becoming Australia’s next scream-queen) and Sam Coward (who provides great comedic relief), Sun has been able to assemble a cast that also consists of Rob Zombie’s go to man Bill Mossely, Sharknado’s scream-queen Tara Reid and horror legend Kane Hodder… better known as the man behind the Jason mask in the Friday The 13th franchise. Sun has also uncovered another star in former Aussie muscleman Nathan Jones who brings a presence to this film like Kane did to See No Evil. His physical appearance alone on screen is frightening and it won’t be too long before overseas horror directors are lining up to get this guy in their films.

Charlie’s Farm may not bring anything new to the horror table but its brute force is enough to make sure that this is a horror film that is certainly going to be noticed. Some of the dialogue may not be great, but seriously would anybody be expecting Shakespeare from this film, but the film has a load of suspense and the kind of slash gore that true fans of the genre are only too happy to cheer along to. This is one horror film that ticks all the boxes that you are going to be looking for in the genre.

Monster Fest, Australia’s foremost celebration of international cult and horror cinema, is excited to announce more juicy details of its 2014 program.

Between the 20th and 30th of November, Cinema Nova, Carlton and Yah Yah’s Bar Collingwood will play host to some of the scariest, weirdest, most twisted and depraved films from Australia and around the world. Monster Fest 2014 promises to be bigger, bloodier and more debauched than ever before – more special guests, more special events, more parties, more insanity on every level!

This year will also see the launch of the ‘Monster Fest Academy of Horror & Mayhem’ – Four full days of masterclasses designed to inform, educate and entertain filmmakers and genre fans alike. The International guest list includes such cult movie luminaries as The Twisted Twins (Jen & Sylvia Soska), Ashley C. Williams (star of The Human Centipede – First Sequence), Conor Sweeney and Matthew Kennedy (star and director of Astron 6’s THE EDITOR) and the King of trash cinema Lloyd Kaufman, who’s internationally renown ‘Make Your Own Damn Movie‘ masterclass promises to be one the highlights of the fest.

Kaufman is one of the twisted jewels in a stunning gallery of cult cinema talent lined up for the ‘Monster Fest Academy of Horror & Mayhem’, full details of which will be revealed on Wednesday the 29th of November at the Monster Fest official media launch at Cherry Bar, Melbourne.

The Masterclasses as well as numerous other Monster Fest events, will take place at the festival’s lounge and event space, ‘The Monster’s Lair’ – situated upstairs at Yah Yah’s bar, 99 Smith St, Collingwood, where drinks, food, luxurious beanbags and a magical interior of Dario Argento inspired Monster madness awaits!

The festival kicks off on Thursday the 20th of November with the Melbourne Premiere of Queensland director Chris Sun’s slasher reboot CHARLIE’S FARM and closes with the Australian Premiere of ABC’s of DEATH 2 – in the days between close to 40 films fill out the busy schedule. Other highlights include Eli Roth’s eagerly anticipated THE GREEN INFERNO, the Aussie Premiere of the hilarious WOLFCOP, the Melbourne Premiere of DEAD SNOW 2, and two local genre gems, the World Premiere of Addison Heath’s feature debut UNDER A KALEIDOSCOPE & THE PLAGUE by Melbournians Nick Kozakis and Kosta Ouzas, as well as the chilling and brilliant HONEYMOON starring Game of Thrones actor, Rose Leslie.

The other amazing news for Monster Fest is the announcement today of a hugely exciting partnership arrangement with Howling Wolves Wines of Margaret River, WA. Howling wolves first became involved with Monster Fest in 2013 as an alcohol sponsor but has now secured the naming rights of the festival – which will now be called the ‘Howling Wolves Monster Fest’.

“Having Howling Wolves come on board as our naming rights partner is a incredible development, it means we can continue growing to become the biggest, boldest and nastiest film festival in the land – The Howling Wolves are riding the Monster wave, it’s a great day for Aussie horror!”

Says festival Director Neil Foley.

Tickets for the strictly limited Masterclasses and Special Events at The Monster’s Lair (Yah Yah’s Bar) are available via the Monster Fest ticket page on Pozible (http://www.pozible.com/MonsterFest2014)

Session tickets for all Monster Fest screenings will be available soon from the Cinema Nova box office and website (http://www.cinemanova.com.au).

The new Monster Fest website will go live next week.

Charlie's Farm Still

Monster Fest, Australia’s foremost celebration of cult cinema, kicks off on the 20th of November with the Melbourne premiere of the eagerly awaited Australian slasher film, CHARLIE’S FARM at Cinema Nova, Carlton.

CHARLIE’S FARM director, Chris Sun and the two lead actors, Tara Reid and Nathan Jones, will attend the premiere to open this year’s Monster Fest, in what is lining up to be the biggest and best festival since it started in 2011.

“The excitement is building as we have sourced the best horror and cult films from Australia and around the world for this years fest”, says Festival Director, Neil Foley. “This is the only chance genre fans will get to see many of these films on the big screen and meet the vast array of fantastic international guests who are attending”, he continued.

CHARLIE’S FARM tells the story of ‘Charlie Wilson’, played by the MAD MAX: FURY ROAD actor, 6’11” Australian strongman, Nathan Jones, and his brutal encounters with 4 thrill seeking friends in the Australian outback.

The friends are led by American actor, Tara Reid, best known for her roles in THE BIG LEBOWSKI, the AMERICAN PIE franchise, and most recently the SHARKNADO films. Having stared in over 24 films, Ms. Reid is an accomplished actor known for her larger than life onscreen persona in many iconic films.

The award winning Australian Director, Chris Sun, has created a truly iconic Australian horror character by casting the near 7′ Jones as the lead. As a world renowned special effects artist, Sun guarantees that CHARLIE’S FARM will be a gruesome and original take on the slasher genre.

“I bring to the table an Australian film that will blow the fans minds and surely stand up against the cult horror classics. It’s not only possible for an Australian film to do this but also CHARLIE’S FARM stands to be one of the biggest horror films to come out of Australia in a long time.”, said Mr. Sun.

Monster Fest runs from the 20th -30th of November at The Cinema Nova in Carlton. This year also sees Yah Yahs Bar on Smith St, Collingwood become a festival hub for the event, serving up a feast of special guests, master-classes, special events and parties – full details of which will be released mid October at the Monster Fest Official Festival Launch.

“Monster Fest has doubled in attendances every year since its foundation and this year is easily our most exciting program yet. We’re talking more guests, films, events, awards, parties, master-classes and our biggest crowds ever – 11 days and nights of non-stop cult movie insanity, bring it on!”, Foley joked.

Tickets for the Monster Fest 2014 Opening Night film, CHARLIE’S FARM, go on-sale on Tuesday 30th of September through the Cinema Nova box office – www.cinemanova.com.au. VIP Festival Passes and tickets to all Monster Fest special events and screenings will be available from mid-October.
