Melbourne-based indie-rock trio Halcyon Drive are celebrating a major milestone today, with the release of their long-awaited debut album ‘Elephant Bones’.

Recorded and co-produced by Eskimo Joe legend Joel Quartermain (Meg MacDustin TebbuttBritish India), the twelve-track record arrives on a wave of hype triggered by the success of five previously released singles – ‘Silver Ray’, ‘Agnosia’, ‘The Birds’, ‘Only Youth’ and fresh cut ‘Reach’ – all of which have won acclaim across the likes of triple jSpotifyMTV, community radio and worldwide tastemaker blogs.

Weaving together pure pop hooks and intricate rhythms, Halcyon Drive’s maiden LP brims with a rare, off-kilter energy. From the heartfelt lows of ‘Satellite‘ to the in-your-face attitude of ‘Agnosia’, it’s a richly diverse offering characterised by considered lyricism, no safe choices, and most definitely no clichés.

Lead singer Michael Oechsle describes the album as a truly collaborative effort, “a kind of creative ping-pong” between himself and drummer/co-writer Max Pamieta. It’s a record that continually pushes and pulls on the bands roots, exploring new sonic territory on each track.

‘Elephant Bones’ also represents the culmination of three years’ worth of relentless writing and touring from the triple j Unearthed finds, whose career has encompassed sold-out headline shows, performances at The Hills are Alive FestivalFestival of The Sun and a support slot on Stereophonics’ sold-out Australian tour.

And to celebrate today’s big release, Halcyon Drive will naturally be hitting the road once again. They’ve just announced a slew of national headline dates, which will see them hit stages in BrisbaneSydney and Melbourne.

‘Elephant Bones’ is available now.

Following on from their critically praised single ‘Silver Ray’, Melbourne-based indie-rock group Halcyon Drive have just revealed live dates and latest cut ‘Agnosia’ – another gripping number lifted from their forthcoming debut album (due late-2018).

‘Agnosia’ shines a light on the trio’s ability to shape songs eclectically, whilst still retaining apt cohesiveness, to ensure they never sway far from their charming and distinctive sound. Opening with searing fuzz-laden guitars, the track briskly bursts into a frenetic and brazen energy; a fitting foundation for the anthemic melodies of enigmatic front man Michael Oechsle.

Oechsle talks about the meaning behind ‘Agnosia’:

“This is a song about truth. A song about, how in this day and age, it’s harder than ever to break free from whatever media, marketing or influence is being forced down our throats.
I was lucky enough to be brought up by two incredible parents who never pushed me into anything, and always let me find my own truth.
This is a song written from the complete opposite perspective- from the perspective of someone so lost in following or fighting other people’s opinions, that they’ve lost the ability to think for themselves.”

To coincide with the release, the band will play two shows at a Secret Location in Melbourne and Otto’s House Party at World Bar, Sydney. This continues on from a relentless April and May touring schedule, which included performances at The Hills are Alive Festival, headlining Rare Finds indie club night tour circuit and a support slot on Stereophonics sold-out Australian tour.

Previous single ‘Silver Ray’ was widely embraced by the likes of Australian radio stations triple j, 3RRR, SYN FM, 4ZZZ, Radio Adelaide and Edge Radio. The track also received support from worldwide tastemaker blogs Indie Shuffle (USA), Podcart (UK), The Revue (CAN), We Love That (GER), Niche Music (JAP), Red Bull Music, Laundry Echo, Savage Thrills and Pilerats.

In the coming weeks Halcyon Drive will reveal an accompanying music video for ‘Agnosia’.
