When John Butler strides onto the Sydney Opera House Forecourt for two special shows this February as part of his national tour to celebrate the release of his HOME album, it will be with an ARIA #1 Album award in hand after fighting off Cher and The Living End to take the crown on this week’s chart.

It’s a fitting accolade for Australia’s most successful independent musician to hit #1 for the first time since 2010’s ‘April Uprising’ in a year that has seen Australian independents take more #1 albums than ever before.

As one of the first artists of the modern era to prove that you can build an independent career on your own terms, it is yet another trailblazing moment made even more satisfying by the deeply personal and emotive content of the now-officially-hit album HOME.

“I can’t express how grateful I am to the Australian community of fans that went out and made this album number one,” said John Butler. “With so many massive artists releasing at the moment I really didn’t think we had a chance. I’m just absolutely awe-struck by the love this album is getting and the ever-strengthening relationship I have with my audience after almost two decades. WOW!!! Thank you times a million to all the fans and my amazing team.”

John Butler Trio’s victory lap will happen across January and February with shows across six states and territories, sharing the stage with good friend and fellow legend Missy Higgins, up and coming singer songwriter Stella Donnelly and special guests in each state including The Waifs, Dan Sultan, Baker Boy, The Teskey Brothers and more.

“These shows take on an even greater meaning to celebrate not only a #1 album, but also that my community of friends, fans and supporters have achieved this around an album that celebrates self-reflection, triumphs, anxieties, redemption and the lived experience of being human,” said John Butler. “I can’t wait to join Missy, Stella and our friends around the country to embrace our positivity and humanity.”

The album HOME is available now on CD, vinyl, download and streaming from:  https://JohnButlerTrio.lnk.to/HOMEalbum

The Seed

The Seed is a very special mentor program set up by John Butler for aspiring young people wanting to work in the music industry… and right now it needs your help.

In order to keep The Seed running a very special fundraiser has been announecd which will see a Pozible campaign kick off on September 1 and very special concert held in Melbourne featuring Missy Higgins, San Cisco, Emma Louise, Paul Kelly and John Butler on October 12th.

Subculture Entertainment’s Dave Griffiths chatted to The Seed’s Project Manager Stacia Ganinon about these very special fundraisers. You can listen to or download the interview right here.

Missy Higgins

On the eve of her one-off Australian OZ tour that begins tomorrow in Cairns, Missy Higgins OZ album and book are released today.  This follows outstanding album reviews for her eclectic collection of Australian cover versions.

Missy’s collection of Aussie cover songs can be enjoyed on the OZ album, read about in the quirky book of related essays, or experienced together as a deluxe cloth-bound CD/Book edition.

Missy said, “It’s bloody exciting to finally have this album and book out there. It’s a totally new venture for me creatively which always makes it pretty nerve wracking waiting to see if people like it, but so far the response has been amazing. We’ve just put together a really exciting new live show too so I can’t wait to get that out on the road.”

From tomorrow, Missy’s national OZ tour will begin as she performs her only shows for at least the next year. The tour will see Missy perform across Australia until October 30 when the tour wraps in Melbourne.

Tickets remain for some shows but are expected to sell out once the tour begins, and are available from all usual outlets.
