Everybody has a wild side, something sinister just under the surface.
Leave it to He Danced Ivy to draw out that madness in their wild new single Spitting On Infinity; a thrashing ruckus full of distorted guitars and unique satirical lyrics that will have you feeling wilder than the house party it was recorded during.
To celebrate the release of Spitting On Infinity, He Danced Ivy will be taking to the stage with international legends Polyphia and Intervals on Monday, September 24.
Spitting On Infinity is the perfect tune for a wild Saturday night, recorded in part during one of those wild Saturday nights when the group gathered a choir of their best mates in a Fortitude Valley parking lot.
“We gathered 25 of our closest friends and crammed them into an outdoor carpark to record the big last chorus group vocals. I don’t know how we didn’t get shut down, but listening back to our wild carpark-choir is easily one of our greatest memories,” saidbassist, Mitch.
All for the theatrics, He Danced Ivy always weave some kind of insane narrative into their music; just try to piece this one together.
“The song tells this story of this narcissist that’s in a relationship that’s falling apart. All the classic culprits are there; in-law drama, compartmentalized emotions, backstabbing, and the false hope that things will get better,” said lead vocalist, Dave.
“Each feeling is painted with equal parts with and sleaze as the narcissist loses all care for subtlety. They begin to revel in the opportunity to lie, cheat, and steal; hell with the consequences. They’re finished, all that’s left is to spit on infinity and piss on the sun,” said lead guitarist, Sean.
Spitting On Infinity is the follow up to their Frankenstein’s monster of a single,Guillotines, released in July, which saw the boys step loudly into the spotlight scoring a rotation spot on triple j Unearthed, support from community radio and taste-maker blogs across the country.
As A Rival are back – and they’re here to kick the door down with their second full length album, ‘Griefers’ – which will see its release into the world on Friday November 2. Today, they are heralding its imminent arrival into the world with anthemic new single ‘What We Got’. Pre-Orders for the album will go live this Friday September 21, with the single available for streaming and purchase same day. All Pre-Order links and streaming options will be at http://asarival.com.
The new single What We Got blasts away from As A Rival’s usual vein of punk rock showing a maturity and diversity in their songwriting, delivering a power punk ballad that will hit even the hardest of hearts. It’s about when someone you love is struggling through a dark time in their lives, holding onto the tiniest of threads, and doing everything possible to comfort them through it. It is an anthem about holding on to the good around you when you’re almost ready to give in to the flames.
Pete Cerni, vocalist for the band, said that “There are times when we are tested – things that we love, that we live for are put to the sword and we’re left to question ‘is it all worth it’? It’s hard not to focus on the negative. It’s hard enough when it’s your own fight, but watching it happen to someone close to you can be debilitating and make you feel helpless. What We Got addresses the internal struggle that comes with failed attempts to try and comfort those in need.”
‘Griefers’ is a gaming term used to describe those who play alongside you only to turn against you, cause you pain and hinder your progress. The same can be used to describe the people we let into our lives. Pete explains, “We go through life meeting people. Connecting with them. Let them in, share with them our passions, our dreams. Some people glide in and out naturally, but others will smile at you while they fight to destroy everything you’ve built.” ‘Griefers’ encompasses the hurt you have to face to crawl out of the mess and deal with the aftermath. Life is about the fight for what you believe in. ‘Griefers’ acknowledges these trying times – the times when you do fall but that it’s ok, as long as you climb even higher as a result.
Recorded at Homesurgery Recordings, the album was produced by Tom Larkin (Shihad) with Sam K Sproull and Jon Grace. The sessions started out with a challenge – complete 50 demos within a 2 month period. A challenge that was met with gusto. 50+ songs later having explored a myriad of styles touched on in previous releases, these sessions enabled As A Rival to hone their craft and evolve their sound. The result: a 12 song punk rock deluge, tackling themes of betrayal, deceit and defiance
‘Griefers’ pays homage to a number of influences and genres culminating into what is As A Rival’s best release to date. From the raw gallop of lead single, ‘Bring Out The Dead’ to the power and grace of ‘What We Got’. The anthemic hooks of ‘Head In The Clouds’ to the burst of energy that is ‘Coup De Main’. The album is full of riffs, hooks and sing-along choruses that keep you coming back for more. They have seamlessly collected the promises from their debut album ‘By Design’ and set them on fire, constructing a new sound from the ashes. ‘Griefers’ is not just a collection of songs, but a statement, a stamp in time outlining the challenges that have landed in their path. However, instead of dwelling on the issues and letting it hold them back, it’s time to let go. They decided to let the past die – kill it if you have to. Pete Cerni (vox/guitar) and Nathan Wheatley (drums) are joined by Johnny Beech (guitar) and Paul Trevorrow (bass) to deliver a powerfully polished punk rock album. After the tease of previous releases, what remains is a certainty and drive that screams that they are the rival they have always threatened to be.

Frontman Seth Davis says, “While we’re an aggressive/intense band, one thing we’ll never be is hateful. We do not stand for violence or general disrespect of anyone for any reason. “Carry On” touches on these very subjects. Acceptance, equality, love, and understanding are something that means a lot to every member of this band. Our upcoming album is titled “Compassion in Unlikely Places” and it comes straight from the lyrics on this video. We realize that the genre of music we play and overall aggressiveness of it might give certain people the wrong impression of what we stand for. With this new single, we want to spread the message of exactly what we’re about and what we stand for. Thanks for reading, and we love you all. Hope the song means as much to you as it does to us.”

WITHIN TEMPTATION – the legendary leaders of dark anthems, with a career spanning two decades – have announced their 7thalbum titled Resist, scheduled for release on 14 December 2018 via Vertigo/Caroline Australia. Resist marksa departure from the past; armed with ten anthemic tracks, driven by grand melodies and dark hooks, Resist brings a futuristic take on metal to the table – both instrumentally and thematically.
Lead singer Sharon den Adel says: “Resist is a true milestone for us. If it wasn’t for Resist, Within Temptation wouldn’t be here anymore. With this record, we’ve taken inspiration from modern music and gave it a face – a very dark one. Sometimes it feels that today’s pop music lacks a rebellious edge.
Our main goal was to collect pieces from sounds we did like and roughen it up as much as we could, resulting in a surprisingly new musical world that is heavier, dirtier and more futuristic than we’ve ever created before. Resist is our take on metal in a new way: to give modern music its rebellious edge.”
The new sound of Resist cuts through bombastic first single ‘The Reckoning’ (featuring Jacoby Shaddix) and will be followed by more new singles before the album release on December 14th. The band’s European Tour kicks off in October and consists of 37 dates in 18 countries. More dates around the globe will follow in 2019.
