[MUSIC NEWS] SHANGRILA Releases New Single
Alternative rock trio Shangrila have released “Let You Down” as the third single to drop from forthcoming EP, ‘Analog Youth‘, out next Friday August 27. Watch here!
The single debuted on triple j Unearthed TOPs on Tuesday before the video went live with Pilerats on Wednesday with a play on triple j Short. Fast. Loud that night. This morning the single found its way onto huge Spotify playlists New Music Friday AU & NZ, Rock Out. and Local Noise, reaching the ears of hundreds of thousands of listeners.
Written about the lingering effects of past relationship traumas, “Let You Down” uncovers the anxieties of entering into a new relationship and being subconsciously unable to let go of old trust and commitment issues. Vocalist Devyn Jupp highlights that “as the song progresses, it follows the relationship breaking down due to the person not allowing themselves to trust their partner from fear of history repeating. Once they are finally able realise the root of the problem is not from their present situation but from the ghost of the past relationship its already too late.“
Exploring the twists and turns of growing up and the journey into adulthood, ‘Analog Youth’ is a coming of age offering, capturing the essence of youth and the different facets of life as we grow older to discover who we are. ‘Analog Youth’ is five moments in time, reflected through memories and emotions narrated over a nostalgic soundscape produced by Shane Edwards of Karma Sound Studios (Trophy Eyes, Hellions) with additional engineering and production by Cody Brooks.
“Let You Down” feeds itself into the story as a track that represents navigating new relationships and learning to let go of toxic ties from the past. Jupp adds, “I’ve always found it interesting how every experience we have throughout our lives shapes the person we grow into and once you know the details of people’s past life experiences and relationships you start to understand how they have become the person they are today.”
Previous singles “Waiting” and “Lift Me Up“ tackled similar feelings that contribute to our ever-growing journey. Both singles have seen airtime on triple j and have racked up tens of thousands of Spotify and YouTube streams. “Lift Me Up” occupied a rotation spot on triple j Unearthed radio and was hailed as an “unbeatable rock anthem pouring a fountain of hope over its melodic waves of rocky beats” by Wall Of Sound and “tonally rich” and “smooth-as-hell” by KillYourStereo. “Waiting” welcomed a spin on Channel 7‘s Friday Night Football on its day of release and was added it Spotify editorial playlist Rock Out.
Launching “Lift Me Up” at Perth’s Amplifier Bar in late July, Shangrila sold out the show and delivered an unmissable performance. Due to demand, the trio are excited to return to the stage for their ‘Analog Youth’ EP launch at Rosemount Hotel on Saturday August 28, supported by Nautical Mile, Stonehands and Pinwheel. Tickets available via Oztix.
Shangrila is Devyn Jupp (vocals), Jackson Macleod (guitars) and Dan Harper. With a band history stretching back almost a decade, the evolution of Shangrila is one that has been constant and ever intriguing. The release of their debut EP ‘Love and Leaving‘ and subsequent headline dates and shows supporting the likes of Trophy Eyes and Gyroscope proved the perfect introduction to the band’s new sonic path, one that was well-released by industry and their fans alike.
“Let You Down”, “Waiting” and “Lift Me Up” are available everywhere now. ‘Analog Youth’ will be available Friday August 27.
