[MUSIC NEWS] VILIFY Release New Single
Reality can be harsh. Existence can feel futile sometimes, best efforts be damned. Newcastle’s Vilify want everyone to know that those feelings are valid and unfortunately all too common, given the past few years’ events, but life is worth living. Railing against those feelings of futility are worth every effort and every day here on this Earth. That is the message of this new single and video from the quartet.
The single will be released this Friday, June 3, 2022 – and can be accessed at http://ffm.to/futility.
Amy McIntosh, vocalist for the band says of the new song, “I know we are all sick of hearing about it, but this song was written in and about the height of the COVID lockdowns. It’s about feeling abandoned. It’s about feeling lost. This song came together in a time when music was at a stand-still. We had all lost the most important thing to us, Music. Our community was pretty much abandoned and left to rot. That feeling of rot and despair made its way into my mind, just as it did to so many other artists I know. We felt worthless. Sports were being played to thousands of people yet many of us who worked and lived for this industry were struggling to put food on the table. We lost venues, we lost friends, we lost faith. I did not want to live anymore. Futility had taken over.“
McIntosh went on to state about the video (that she Directed, Filmed & Edited with assistance from the rest of the band members and actors Jaxon Ireland & Maddi McSevney!), saying that it “…is based on a recurring dream I keep having. I believe I am commonly regarded as a pretty cheerful person and this video is sort of my side of that. Constantly forcing cheerfulness and happiness especially over the last few years has begun to feel like I am suffocating. Suffocating on a bouquet of false joy. That’s what this song felt like. It felt like I was constantly spitting this garbage positivity that I did not believe in for the sake of others. All in all. Self care is important. True honest connections with others is even more so.“
The band worked with Chris Blancato for the first time, who Produced, Mixed & Mastered the track – with the band members all agreeing that this is the direction that they intend to go with future releases as well.
LGBTQIA+ issues and themes are extremely important to the band and regularly speak out on the topic. This single comes early in what is recognised as Pride Month. Tour dates to celebrate this single will be announced very soon.
‘Futility’ will be released on Friday June 3 and can be purchased/streamed/pre-saved now at http://ffm.to/futility.
