[MUSIC INTERVIEW] BLACK CITRUS – Glass Mountain Interview
‘Glass Mountain’ is the first full-length album from the Lithuanian dark stoners Black Citrus.
The album represents two sides of Black Citrus. Tracks 1-4 are melodic dark rock songs, while tracks 5-8 are stoner doom anthems. ‘Glass Mountain’ will be released exclusively on cassette, but will also be available on all digital platforms.
The band states: “The album was self-produced and self-recorded in our rehearsal room. Mixed by our dear friend Paulius Simanavi?ius (Juodvarnis) and mastered by the talented Sebastian Has (Behemoth, Obscure Sphinx, Necromantia). It is a collection of emotions that we’ve endured the last three years: loss of loved ones (Shadow of Your Light), loss of self (Crowded Sky), creative block (7th Song), anger (Spit on a Shore) and so on. The Glass Mountain represents life and struggle. Sometimes it’s slippery and almost impossible to climb and sometimes there’s no visible shadow. We all have inner struggles that cast a shadow on our lives, but we keep it in, leaving the shadow inside us, not visible to the public. We’re really happy with how it turned out and we hope that there is something in it for everyone.”
Black Citrus is a stoner doom/dark rock trio that melds heavy psychedelic sounds with raw sludgy tones. Formed in Vilnius, Lithuania, the band has had a few line-up changes until it’s present form stabilized in 2020. Even though they come from the stoner/doom scene, the band is constantly evolving their sound and experimenting with different elements of music to create their own signature tone. Their compositions unfold as journeys, running the gamut of styles from the 90’s to the present. On July 2nd 2021 Black Citrus released a self-titled EP. Their first full-length album ‘Glass Mountain’ is to be released on September 13th, 2024.
This week Dave Griffiths sat down and spoke to the band about the album:
