[MUSIC NEWS] RUE MORGUE RECORDS Announce OZZY Tribute Album
Rue Morgue Records founder John Raptis has made the following statement about the label’s plan to create an Ozzy Osbourne tribute album.
“It was late Thursday night, not long after the world lost Ozzy Osbourne, when the idea hit me.
I needed to do something. Something real. To honour the life and legacy of this man and the band that changed everything: Black Sabbath.
Out of that grief came a spark. A tribute album. One that brings together the artists I’ve worked with at Rue Morgue Records over the past seven years. I posted the idea to our private LEGION Facebook group (just $50 to join, by the way). LEGION has always been my go-to crew, the advisory council of Rue Morgue Records, and they’ve never let me down.
But then I hesitated. I didn’t want it to seem like we were cashing in on Ozzy’s death. So I pulled the plug just a few hours later.
By morning, I couldn’t shake it. The idea was still burning. This could be something meaningful. Something powerful. A send-off to the greatest band of all time. A chance to raise money for Parkinson’s charities in Ozzy’s name. And a spotlight for the criminally overlooked Aussie Hard Rock and Metal scene.
So I said screw it. You only live once. We’re doing it.
I sent out a call to every band I’ve worked with since Rue Morgue’s first release.
Within half a day, ten bands had signed on.
Now it’s looking like this may end up as a double album. Something we’re seriously considering.
So yeah… ELECTRIC FUNERAL: The Australian Hard Rock and Metal Tribute To Black Sabbath is officially happening.
To our fans, our supporters, and our fellow Sabbath devotees, we hope you jump on board. This might be the most ambitious thing we’ve ever done. And it’s going to be impossible to ignore.
More announcements soon.”
