[MUSIC INTERVIEW] MORGAN EVANS – 2026 Meatstock Interview
Returning to the spotlight with his first new music in nearly three years, Morgan Evans emerges with clear eyes and an open heart, tempered by experience and with love back in his soul.
“That all starts with me going back to my hometown and reconnecting with my roots – where I came from and who I used to be … and who I still want to be,” Evans explains. “It felt like the sky was falling down and the walls were caving in, but when I got back home, it was such a good, grounding thing. I’m sure it is for everyone when they go back to their hometown.”
Pairing a sun-dappled mix of modern country and rock with his easy-going flair for pop nostalgia, Evans traces the full arc of his journey on a record named for industrial hometown, 11 songs dig deep into themes of home, healing, and renewed hope. A truly transformational song cycle written or co-written entirely by Evans himself (including two emotional solo writes), his new project sets him finally free of the past, as he gets back to his original mission: celebrating this crazy ride we call life.
To celebrate the occasion, Morgan has released the official music video for the album’s title track. “Steel Town” was captured live at the Howlin Festival in Newcastle last month, marking a full-circle moment in his hometown. It was the very first time Morgan performed the song live, and the energy of that debut made it the perfect setting to document on film. Blending that raw, live performance with iconic footage from around Newcastle, the clip brings the story of “Steel Town” to life in a way that feels both deeply personal and visually powerful – making it a fitting lead video for the new album.
Fans will have the chance to toast with Evans on tour, as his headline Steel Town Tour makes its way across Australia and New Zealand in May and June with Laci Kaye Booth opening. Evans will celebrate the record stateside with a return to the circle at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, Friday, 20 March (US time).
This week Morgan spoke to Subculture about both performing at Meatstock and his new album
