[MUSIC NEWS] PAUL DEMPSEY Announces Special Melbourne Show

Something for Kate frontman and celebrated solo troubadour, Paul Dempsey, is delighted to announce a very special solo acoustic show at Melbourne’s magnificent Recital Centre on Wednesday  14th November.

Having spent a jam-packed 2018 moving between a variety of projects including :  3 sold out Australian tours, duetting at the Australian of the Year ceremony with Amy Shark; touring Europe, Iceland and South America with members of David Bowie’s band in Celebrating David Bowie ; and writing new material for the forthcoming Something For Kate album, Paul will take to the stage for one night only at the iconic Melbourne venue to perform songs from across his vast solo and Something for Kate catalogue with the addition of his signature classic covers and the promise of some new SFK material. Having performed at festivals, theatres, bars, clubs and pubs all over the world, this is a unique opportunity to hear one of Australia’s most powerful voices in a pristine, state of the art auditorium.

As with every single Paul Dempsey performance, his desire and ability to connect directly with his audience lies at the heart of the show. Stepping on to the Recital Centre stage in his home town, alone with his guitar, Dempsey will tell stories, and hold musical conversations that connect performer with audience in a way very few artists can. It’s this rare ability (alongside an uncanny ability to produce quality material for over two decades) that explains Dempsey’s long career and unique relationship with his audience.

Says Paul of the desire to play this special one-off show at the Recital Centre:  “Hometown shows are always special and I’m particularly excited about this one. It’s about bloody time I gave my audience an opportunity to enjoy the music in a stunning acoustic environment whilst (hopefully) wearing something nice and reclining in a well-designed chair at a perfectly reasonable hour on a school night.”

Since forming Something for Kate in 1994, Paul Dempsey has travelled a road of consistent musical quality, authenticity and credibility to become one of Australia’s most celebrated and fiercely original song writers and performers, both as part of his band, and as a solo performer. It’s a rare double act, made even more unique by the fact that he has managed to do both in tandem, with his parallel careers evoking similar levels of devotion and critical acclaim amongst fans and media alike.

With over 500,000 album sales, 10 gold and platinum awards, multiple number ones and sold out tours stretching back over 20 years, preferring to tackle subject matters well beyond the realm of rock ‘n’ roll, Dempsey is the rarest of breeds: talented, credible, and popular. Perhaps most crucially, he’s a man constantly curious about the world around him, a fact that goes some way to explaining his constant musical and lyrical evolution.

With a deep love of live performance, and a pronounced sense of excitement about playing a home town show in a room designed for listening, this one-off show promises to be an event that will long live in the memory of everyone in attendance in this very special venue.
