[MUSIC NEWS] JOHN BUTLER Takes #1

When John Butler strides onto the Sydney Opera House Forecourt for two special shows this February as part of his national tour to celebrate the release of his HOME album, it will be with an ARIA #1 Album award in hand after fighting off Cher and The Living End to take the crown on this week’s chart.

It’s a fitting accolade for Australia’s most successful independent musician to hit #1 for the first time since 2010’s ‘April Uprising’ in a year that has seen Australian independents take more #1 albums than ever before.

As one of the first artists of the modern era to prove that you can build an independent career on your own terms, it is yet another trailblazing moment made even more satisfying by the deeply personal and emotive content of the now-officially-hit album HOME.

“I can’t express how grateful I am to the Australian community of fans that went out and made this album number one,” said John Butler. “With so many massive artists releasing at the moment I really didn’t think we had a chance. I’m just absolutely awe-struck by the love this album is getting and the ever-strengthening relationship I have with my audience after almost two decades. WOW!!! Thank you times a million to all the fans and my amazing team.”

John Butler Trio’s victory lap will happen across January and February with shows across six states and territories, sharing the stage with good friend and fellow legend Missy Higgins, up and coming singer songwriter Stella Donnelly and special guests in each state including The Waifs, Dan Sultan, Baker Boy, The Teskey Brothers and more.

“These shows take on an even greater meaning to celebrate not only a #1 album, but also that my community of friends, fans and supporters have achieved this around an album that celebrates self-reflection, triumphs, anxieties, redemption and the lived experience of being human,” said John Butler. “I can’t wait to join Missy, Stella and our friends around the country to embrace our positivity and humanity.”

The album HOME is available now on CD, vinyl, download and streaming from:  https://JohnButlerTrio.lnk.to/HOMEalbum
