[MUSIC NEWS] VERTICOLI Release New Single

Summer. Sun, fun, hormones, vibes. Everyone’s been young and dumb and fallen in love (read: lust) in the summertime. Today, Verticoli reminisce about old times and summer hijinks with their new single ‘Hits of the Summer’!

Sam Hunn from the band explains. “‘Hits of the Summer’ is a throwback to a summer nearly a decade ago. Hanging out, getting all loved up with a lady, only to realise after being punched in the face by another guy that things weren’t quite what they seemed. It’s a self-deprecating look at two young blokes with under-developed brains trying to navigate love and lust.”

The grunged-up alternative rock banger serves as a fun, anthemic track to remember the summer months by – and a warning to not let summer fun and hormones lead you into unwanted attention! If you like music that is all that is heavy, melodic, and raucous, you are in the right place. Not only that, it hints at what to expect from an album yet to come from the outfit later in 2022!

If you aren’t across them yet, Verticoli is a three-piece band from Tasmania, founded in a shared love of Nirvana, Soundgarden, You am I, Silverchair and Regurgitator.

Guitarist/vocalist Sam Hunn and drummer Will Colvin have been playing and writing music together since high school. Their deep bond, combined with a dogged determination to be their own favourite band is why Verticoli has continued for so long.

Verticoli have supported the likes of Cog, Kingswood, British India and DZ Deathrays, opened the Field Stage at the 2014/15 Falls Festival in Marion Bay, and were selected by Triple J Unearthed to play the 2017 Party in the Paddock. Speaking of live performances, the three-piece will launch the track at Hobart Brewing Co on April 8th (with guests Drenched & Jake Crane) and Pennys in Melbourne on April 9 (with guests Among The Restless and Arabella and The Heist!

Verticoli released their self-titled and self-recorded EP in 2013, followed by their LP ‘Punching Bag’ in 2015. The ‘Free Will’ EP was released in 2017 and received significant community radio attention. The ‘Heavy’ EP was released in 2021, written virtually during COVID-19 lockdowns, and reflecting the heaviness and anxiety of those isolating times.

Now split between Tasmania and Victoria, 2022 sees the band finally able to meet and work on a significant catalogue of songs written and demoed over the last year.

‘Hits of the Summer’ was Written and Performed by Verticoli (Sam Hunn, Will Colvin, Jeremy Hughes), Engineered by Cameron Hull at Wick Studios, Produced by Jon Grace at Merigold Recordings (Dear Seattle, Dune Rats, Kingswood, Bakers Eddy) and Mixed and Mastered by ARIA-nominated maestro Forrester Savell, and inspired by the likes of Nirvana, Shihad, Quicksand, and more, ‘Hits of the Summer’ is a driving, grunge-infused rock track, with a hint of the nostalgic California sound of bands like the Beach Boys.
