[MUSIC NEWS] ESSIE HOLT Releases New Single Ahead Of Tour

Melbourne indie-pop artist Essie Holt is poised to release her second single ‘Magnetise’, delivering on the accolades generated by her much-lauded debut in late 2017.

‘Magnetise’ is an ethereal, drenched-in-melancholia slice of electronic indie-pop. Solemn vocals and sparse verses are underscored by deft percussion, giving way to a sweeping, intricately layered chorus that submerges the senses and ensnares the heartstrings. The infectious track was co-written and produced by Melbourne artist Fractures and mixed by Dave Hammer (Nicole Millar, Thundamentals).

Essie describes the emotional core of the track –

“I wrote ‘Magnetise’ with my good friend/collaborator Mark (Fractures) after I’d had a late night hanging out with a bunch of friends. We’d been drifting for a while due to everyone going in their different directions after school, but the conversations that night really confirmed it was time for me to move on. ‘Magnetise’ is me coming to terms with ending a long friendship, but also feeling a sense of closure and satisfaction. We really tried to capture both the feelings of sadness and empowerment in the production.”

Debut track ‘Underwater’ was supported by triple j, triple j Unearthed, community radio stations, and Spotify via their New Music Friday and Fresh Finds: Six Strings playlists. The track also won the stamp of approval from worldwide tastemaker blogs, including Purple Sneakers, Pilerats, PressPLAY OK (UK) and The Vinyl District (USA).

Capacity shows in both Melbourne and Sydney as well as an AU/NZ booking deal with The Harbour Agency were the capstone to an explosive debut for Essie.

The songstress will launch ‘Magnetise’ with appearances at indie club night Rare Finds’ third birthday at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory, and a headline show at Melbourne’s Gasometer Hotel.
