Phoenix, AZ based, Dark Alternative Rock Band THE SPIDER HOLE has announced the launch of a Kickstarter Campaign to help support their upcoming LP and associated graphic novel, To The Monsters. The unique project is built around the LP with 11 original songs, each about a different monster, as well as a 100 page horror anthology graphic novel written and illustrated by vocalist Ethan Scott; each story in the novel is about a different band member over the course of one fateful Halloween night.
To celebrate the upcoming launch, the quartet has revealed their first single, “The Skeleton Wedding,” from the album.
Two versions of the graphic novel will be offered through the Kickstarter, the standard softcover edition, and a DELUXE hardcover edition, which includes 4 additional stories. The hardcover edition is only available to Kickstarter backers.
A quartet with frequent guest musicians, The Spider Hole performs songs meant to stir brains and rattle bones. Based in sun-scorched Phoenix, AZ, the band started banging sounds together in the late nineties, and has steadily developed an aural stew that is partly rock, partly cabaret, partly blues, and partly goth. Influences include Tom Waits, Oingo Boingo, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Primus, The Pixies, Frank Zappa, The Doors, and your face when you taste something unexpected. New music is being prepped for a new full-length album called To the Monsters, due near the end of 2018.
Active rock powerhouse Owl Company recently announced the upcoming release of their sophomore full-length album entitled Iris out November 9, 2018via Eclipse Records. The album was mixed by Matt Wallace (Maroon 5, Faith No More, Three Doors Down) and mastered by Paul Logus (Stone Sour, Pop Evil, Clutch).
It has been a mere four weeks since the release of their first single and music video for the track “Shattered Dreams”, and it has already surpassed 19,000 views on YouTube, and 20,000 organic plays on Spotify. Today, Owl Companyhave released a brand-new lyric video for the soaring active rock anthem, “Rise”. Watch it now via the Eclipse Records YouTube channel, or stream it via Spotify, Apple Music, or Deezer today!
Vocalist Enrico Minelli states, “Rise is about faith and how those associated beliefs can intervene in a person’s life. It tells a story of someone who has realized that they are the god of their actions”.
Iris contains thirteen memorable, melodic, active rock anthems which flex their muscles, and instantly make you want to hear more. Highlights on the album include the instant hit “Shattered Dreams” which tackles the concept of faith and how it can take away one’s free will, the self-empowering track “Rise” which also explores the concept of faith but from the perspective that individuals are responsible for their own actions, and the soaring energetic track “Antagonist” which is a personal reflection on the ending of a lifelong relationship.
Sydney based rock outfit Lese Majesty are set to release new single ‘Age of Outrage’ this Friday September 21! The duo, Jodie Gibson (vocalist) and Joel Henderson (guitarist and songwriter), have joined forces with producer Luke Palmer (Dead Letter Circus guitarist) for the song – and have also featured drummer Luke Williams of Dead Letter Circus on the track. Add to that, mixing credits to Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Cog, Shihad), and you have something of a special broth brewing. It comes as a first taste of what is to come – on an EP that will be announced very soon.
Inspired by the outrage trend gripping the thumbs of the current digital age, the point of view is from the perspective of someone who’s made a mistake and can’t live it down. “It’s personal experience” said Joel. “I wrote this stupid joke as a teenager and I always thank my lucky Zuckerberg’s that social media wasn’t around, or I would have been destroyed…. now whenever I see someone repeating the same pattern, even if what they write is absurd, a part of me can empathise with them.”
Bassist Joel Henderson describes the recording process, “Luke had this crazy riff idea that scared the pants off us… we jammed on it in pre-production one weekend, and by the end of the day we had all the music finished but no lyrics or melody. For two months we wrote about four or five different choruses and more than fifteen different verses until we finally had something that was close to the mark.”
“I was reluctant about this song at first, it was so frantic that I didn’t know if we could pull it off live” reveals Joel, “but the riff was bouncing around inside my head for weeks, and I had so many lyric ideas that we just couldn’t put it aside.”
“It was Forresters’ cat that gave us the inspiration behind the opening line.” Singer Jodie Gibson laughs, “We were recording vocals at his home studio, we walked outside for a break, the cat would slink on over, almost close enough for a pat, and just as we reached out – it would pull its head back… classic cat tease, almost saying: “Is this what you wanted?” So that became the opening line of the song.”
The single comes along with a videoclip, filmed and edited by Joel Black from Tommirock, a music and film production company from Newcastle.
Lese Majesty’s new single Age of Outrage is out this Friday September 21 in all good online stores and streaming outlets.
As A Rival are back – and they’re here to kick the door down with their second full length album, ‘Griefers’ – which will see its release into the world on Friday November 2. Today, they are heralding its imminent arrival into the world with anthemic new single ‘What We Got’. Pre-Orders for the album will go live this Friday September 21, with the single available for streaming and purchase same day. All Pre-Order links and streaming options will be at http://asarival.com.
The new single What We Got blasts away from As A Rival’s usual vein of punk rock showing a maturity and diversity in their songwriting, delivering a power punk ballad that will hit even the hardest of hearts. It’s about when someone you love is struggling through a dark time in their lives, holding onto the tiniest of threads, and doing everything possible to comfort them through it. It is an anthem about holding on to the good around you when you’re almost ready to give in to the flames.
Pete Cerni, vocalist for the band, said that “There are times when we are tested – things that we love, that we live for are put to the sword and we’re left to question ‘is it all worth it’? It’s hard not to focus on the negative. It’s hard enough when it’s your own fight, but watching it happen to someone close to you can be debilitating and make you feel helpless. What We Got addresses the internal struggle that comes with failed attempts to try and comfort those in need.”
‘Griefers’ is a gaming term used to describe those who play alongside you only to turn against you, cause you pain and hinder your progress. The same can be used to describe the people we let into our lives. Pete explains, “We go through life meeting people. Connecting with them. Let them in, share with them our passions, our dreams. Some people glide in and out naturally, but others will smile at you while they fight to destroy everything you’ve built.” ‘Griefers’ encompasses the hurt you have to face to crawl out of the mess and deal with the aftermath. Life is about the fight for what you believe in. ‘Griefers’ acknowledges these trying times – the times when you do fall but that it’s ok, as long as you climb even higher as a result.
Recorded at Homesurgery Recordings, the album was produced by Tom Larkin (Shihad) with Sam K Sproull and Jon Grace. The sessions started out with a challenge – complete 50 demos within a 2 month period. A challenge that was met with gusto. 50+ songs later having explored a myriad of styles touched on in previous releases, these sessions enabled As A Rival to hone their craft and evolve their sound. The result: a 12 song punk rock deluge, tackling themes of betrayal, deceit and defiance
‘Griefers’ pays homage to a number of influences and genres culminating into what is As A Rival’s best release to date. From the raw gallop of lead single, ‘Bring Out The Dead’ to the power and grace of ‘What We Got’. The anthemic hooks of ‘Head In The Clouds’ to the burst of energy that is ‘Coup De Main’. The album is full of riffs, hooks and sing-along choruses that keep you coming back for more.
They have seamlessly collected the promises from their debut album ‘By Design’ and set them on fire, constructing a new sound from the ashes. ‘Griefers’ is not just a collection of songs, but a statement, a stamp in time outlining the challenges that have landed in their path. However, instead of dwelling on the issues and letting it hold them back, it’s time to let go. They decided to let the past die – kill it if you have to. Pete Cerni (vox/guitar) and Nathan Wheatley (drums) are joined by Johnny Beech (guitar) and Paul Trevorrow (bass) to deliver a powerfully polished punk rock album. After the tease of previous releases, what remains is a certainty and drive that screams that they are the rival they have always threatened to be.

Organisers of the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR are excited to announce they will be bringing the award-winning festival to Rockhampton in 2019 for the first time. The Easter show is part of the touring festival’s Series Three line-up, headlined by John Farnham, featuring Daryl Braithwaite, Jon Stevens, Vanessa Amorosi, Thirsty Merc and Dragon. This is a massive coup for regional Queensland audiences. The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR in 2018 already won itself the Best Selling Festival accolade in the Ticketmaster Awards, a coveted title for an tour that is dedicated to taking first class music out to regional Australia across four months from January to April each year.
Promoter Duane McDonald says when it came to picking a location for an Easter show, Rockhampton was the perfect choice. “We are thrilled to be taking the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR to Rocky for the first time in 2019,” he says. “Rockhampton is fast proving itself to be the events capital of regional Queensland and we can’t wait for this opportunity to present some of Australia’s finest acts on Easter Saturday.”
Organised with the blessing of Rockhampton Regional Council, Mayor Margaret Strelow is excited for the concert, to be held on The Common. “Rockhampton is set to rock in Easter 2019,” she says. “We are delighted to welcome a fantastic line-up of artists to our region including Aussie greats John Farnham and Daryl Braithwaite. It’s always exciting to bring new events to our region and I’m sure our community will be thrilled to see these iconic performers here in Central Queensland together for the first time.”
The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR series featuring John Farnham in 2017 and 2018 sold-out and the 2019 run will no doubt do the same. Revered as one of the best male vocalists – by both fans and fellow musicians – he has had an incredibly versatile career. His 1986 album Whispering Jack was the first record to sell over a million copies in Australia and its chart topping single You’re The Voice cemented the honey toned solo artist as ‘the voice’ of the country. Over the next several years he released hit after hit, including Pressure Down, Reasons, A Touch of Paradise, Age of Reason, Two Strong Hearts, Angels, Talk of The Town, Chain Reaction, Burn For You, Have A Little Faith (In Us) and That’s Freedom to name a few. Audiences will have the chance to celebrate five decades of great music when John takes to the stage for these select shows in 2019.
A long-time supporter of the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR, Daryl Braithwaite always puts on an incredible performance – it’s why his return to the line-up is highly anticipated. He is one of the most recognisable voices in the Australian music scene, and with a diverse career that has spanned decades. Daryl’s consistency as a performer has never wavered, something that sees him performing regularly to packed crowds around the country. Starting his career in the 1970s as the frontman for Sherbet, Daryl was crowned King of Pop and the band produced 20 national Top 40 singles. In the 1980’s Daryl set out on his own solo career, releasing smash hit singles such as One Summer, As The Days Go By and Sugar Train to name a few. His anthemic version of The Horses is always a crowd-pleaser and a favourite for RED HOT SUMMER TOUR fans.
For lovers of great music, a concert experience with Jon Stevens is up there with the very best. From his Noiseworks days – and hits such as Welcome To The World, No Lies, Touch and Hot Chilli Woman – to fronting The Dead Daisies and INXS, he has made an indelible impact with his amazing vocals. Jon also has an incredible solo catalogue, the most recent of which Starlight saw him do a run of sold-out dates last year. His live shows are dynamic, high energy and will keep audiences on their feet. Music fans are in for a treat as Jon takes RED HOT SUMMER TOUR audiences through his repertoire in 2019.
It has been seven years since Vanessa Amorosi has performed as part of the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR and audiences are certainly in for a treat. Considered one of Australia’s most iconic female voices, the festival sees the soulful powerhouse performer return to her live roots. Her debut album The Power (2000) demonstrated Vanessa was a force to reckon with – it notched up six nominations at the ARIA awards and saw her sing at the Sydney Olympics. It was the breakthrough Top 10 hit Absolutely Everybody that made her a household name, it stayed in the charts for six months, went certified double platinum and charted in Europe. She continued to demonstrate her versatility as a soul, R&B and rock performer with albums Somewhere In The Real World (2008) and Hazardous (2009). She has sold over two million records and heads into 2019 with a renewed focus on music and live shows, kicking off with the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR.
It’s hard to believe it has been over 15 years since Thirsty Merc smashed onto the scene with his such as Someday Someday and In The Summertime. Lead singer Rai Thistlethwayte proved himself to be a world-class songwriter and the trio performed far and wide. Having recently celebrated their 15-year anniversary with a national tour, the return of Thirsty Merc on the festival circuit will be embraced by audiences. The band were last part of the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR in 2011 where audiences delighted in their performances.
When it comes to iconic bands, Dragon has a long history with Aussie music fans. Moving from New Zealand to Australia in the 1970s, the Kiwi-come-Aussie band made an indelible mark and their music captured the hearts of a generation. Songs like April Sun in Cuba, Are You Old Enough, Still In Love With You, Young Years and Rain became ingrained into the Australian psyche. They were an institution on Countdown. Fast forward more than 45 years and audiences still can’t get enough of Dragon – with Todd Hunter still on bass and fellow New Zealander Mark Williams on vocals, the reformation of Dragon has seen a whole new generation of music lovers introduced to their music and loving it.
The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR is always a sell-out series. The 2018 run saw many of the shows sell-out several months before and tickets are always coveted. Don’t miss out on tickets to the 2019 tour – these shows are what music memories are made of!
