“Archright” is the second single to be unveiled ahead of Town Portal’s third LP, ‘Of Violence’ (released 5th April via Small Pond recordings and Art As Catharsis). Launching on 19th February via a feature on Invisible Oranges“Archright” is set to build on the success of the recent “Roko’s Basilisk” single, which is out now and gaining heavy online support. With a batch of tour dates also freshly announced, the Danish band will be bringing their new music to fans across the UK and Europe in April and May.

Hailing from CopenhagenTown Portal are a three-piece consisting of guitarist Christian Henrik Ankerstjerne, drummer Malik Breuer Bistrup and bassist Morten Ogstrup Nielsen. Their taut, gritty and emotionally stirring breed of instrumental rock pulls influence from the worlds of metal, math-rock, noise-rock and minimalist experimental music.

While their past albums were self-recorded (with Ankerstjerne at the helm), the band had a sound in their heads for the new record, that required a new approach. As a result, audio engineer Scott Evans – known for his spacious, heavy productions and his band Kowloon Walled City – was brought in from San Francisco to record the band in Copenhagen’s legendary Black Tornado Studio.

The first song from the new record to be completed, the uncompromising “Archright” provided the blueprint and clarified the band’s vision for the powerful album to come – a body of work that brings a multi-dimensional exploration of the theme of violence, spurred in no small part by the turmoil of current times. Striking a note of uneasy, dissonant calm, always ready to break, this track was sparked by the band members’ dismay and disdain at the rise of populist nationalism in the West. “The title grew out of thoughts about entitlement, notions of having a right that others don’t have”, say the trio. “Arch is a hollow prefix. We liked the combination of words, because it sounds important and like something you can rally behind, but in fact it falls apart if you try to poke at it.”

Across their two previous LPs (2012’s ‘Chronopoly’ and 2015’s ‘The Occident’) they have attracted a worldwide fanbase and major tastemaker support from the likes of Noisey, Brooklyn Vegan, Stereogum, Metal Sucks, Decibel and Invisible Oranges. This adds to extensive tours across Europe, and other notable outings including cult festival Duna Jam in Italy, ArcTanGent (where they describe witnessing “the world’s friendliest circle-pit” in their audience) and support for The Dillinger Escape Plan.

On their new material, Town Portal allow their typically calculated and controlled musical universe to give way to exhilarating chinks of chaos – a mindset inspired partly by several ventures into unfamiliar territory since their last release. In 2017 the band were recruited by composer Ola Strandh (Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft) to collaborate on the soundtrack to the forthcoming high profile videogame ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division 2’. The following year they were sought out to join Johannes Gammelby and Manoj Ramdas in a new incarnation of Danish alt. rock darlings The Malpractice, playing live shows in Copenhagen and Aarhus in support of Gammelby’s most recent release, ‘Slur’.

As always, the band have taken their time making music, but every exploit along the way has fed into the songwriting, adding new energies and components into their expression. The “Archright” single is a microcosm of a deeply thought, passionate and impactful record on which inspirations from deconstructed electronic music, avant-garde metal and cinematic brass arrangements coexist seamlessly.

After nearly a decade fronting the band, Jake Wiffen announced his departure from Dead City Ruins following an extensive 2018 touring schedule of Europe and Australia. True to their Never Say Die mantra however, the band wasted no time in finding the man who would fill the giant shoes left behind; Steve Welsh.

Well regarded worldwide and in online circles for his vocal prowess, Welsh brings a fresh energy to the band already shown through capacity hometown shows and dates with New York City’sLiving Colour. Dead City Ruins look forward to bringing their dynamic and powerful live show to European audiences in early 2019.

The band are in the midst of a 22 date tour of the UK and Europe with heavy metal legends UDO (original singer of ACCEPT)

Along for the ride filling in on bass is Luke Bolton of F*** the Fitzroy Doom Scene.

LINE UP:
Steve Welsh – VOCALS
Tommy Tbone – GUITAR
Sean Blanchard – GUITAR
Nick Trajanovski – DRUMS
Luke Bolton – BASS (Touring)

Dead City Ruins have made a name for themselves on a national and international level through years of touring and living in their tour bus lovingly named the Blue Bastard. Well known for their energetic live performance and brazen return to the roots of Australian pub rock.
For nine years now the band has been going strong without letting anything distract them from their mission. Dead City Ruins plow ahead with everything they’ve got, and you can hear this in every note on Never Say Die.
Recorded with English producer James Lewis (Arctic Monkeys, Sunset Sons) Never Say Die will knock you on your ass, just as all good rock’n’roll should, but there’s more to it than that. The music goes deep – as all really good rock’n’roll should. After all, Led Zeppelin are more than Whole Lotta Love, Sabbath are more than Iron Man, and Soundgarden go beyond Outshined. Dead City Ruins play with the same intensity that made the iconic albums of the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties so special. In short, it has soul.
With their rock n roll battle scars worn like badges of honour, the band have played every hole in the wall pub and club you can think of both here and on multiple extended tours of Europe and the States with the likes of Mastodon, Skid Row, Ugly Kid Joe, Fozzy, Orange Goblin and Wolfmother. Playing every show like they were headlining an arena.
Of course the songs on Never Say Die can’t help but reflect the life they now lead. A life on the road. Songs about touring, break ups, fans, laughs, tears and beers..
Fuelled by life, raised by riffs and out to give everyone a good time, Dead City Ruins have delivered an album of working class hard rock that will leave your ears ringing and a grin fixed on your face for days.

The thieves, all in their 60s and 70s except for one, employ their old-school thieving skills to plan the heist over the Easter holiday weekend. Posing as servicemen, they enter the deposit, neutralise the alarms, and proceed to drill a hole into the wall of the safe. Two days later, they manage to escape worth allegedly over £200 million worth of stolen jewels and money. When police are called to the scene and investigation starts, the cracks between the misfit gang members begin to show as they row over how to share the goods and become increasingly distrustful of each other. Meanwhile, the crime has become public knowledge, and a frenzy of speculations begin. As details about the crime come to light, both the British public and the media are captivated, and the investigation is followed with bated breath around the world until the criminals are eventually captured. Anna And The Apocalypse will be released on DVD through Icon on the 6th March 2019.

O.R.k., featuring Italy’s celebrated vocalist, producer and award-winning film score composer Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari a.k.a LEF (lead vocals), King Crimson’s Pat Mastelotto(drums), Porcupine Tree’s Colin Edwin (bass), Marta Sui Tubi’s Carmelo Pipitone (guitars) have revealed their new single & video for “Black Blooms” which features their collaboration with the iconic System Of A Down frontman, Serj Tankian.

O.R.k bassist Colin Edwin explains how the collaboration with Serj Tankian came about “The involvement of Serj Tankian came about through legendary producer Bill Laswell, who played bass on Lef’s 2018 solo album ‘Hypersomniac’. Laswell passed a copy of ‘Hypersomniac’ to Serj, who was impressed enough to also check out O.R.k. and our previous two albums. This led directly to Lef and Serj connecting and discussing potentially collaborating at some point; it was just at the time we were working on ‘Ramagehead’, so of course a suggestion had to be made. Lef sent him the tracks as a ‘work in progress’ and from this, Serj himself chose “Black Blooms” as the song he wished to sing and work with us on.

Colin continues “The development of “Black Blooms” took a few unexpected turns as we all contributed along the way, Pat Mastelotto’s masterful drumming added an underlying aspect of urgency I hadn’t anticipated on the original demo, and Carmelo Pipitone manages to strike a superlative balance between sensitivity and total fireworks as the song progresses. The atmosphere was always going to be a great context for Lef’s vocals, but the biggest surprise was Serj Tankian’s involvement, which really amazed me when I first heard it, he’s added, not simply a great vocal performance, but the exact amount of extra depth to the framework, to turn it into something truly special, and if I didn’t know better, I would have thought “Black Blooms” was made with him in mind.”

The forthcoming album Ramagehead, their first for Kscope, was created from the band’s collective vision, unique influences and a multi-layered reflection of their powerful and engaging live experience. The resulting epic contains all the ingredients of a fiery O.R.k. performance with dark and heavy riffing, mesmeric atmospheres.

Recorded during 2018 at LefMusicStudio (Italy), The Wormhole (USA) and Nightspace (UK). The mixing for Ramagehead was handled by Adrian Benavides and three-time Grammy-winning engineer Marc Urselli (U2, Foo Fighters, Nick Cave), the mastering by Michael Fossenkemper, engineering by Benavides and Bill Munyon (King Crimson), cover art by Adam Jones (TOOL) and design by Denis Rodier (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman). The recordings, and involvement of SOAD’s Serj Tankian on the forthcoming single, “Black Blooms“, solidifies the band’s serious intent to use their musical chemistry in exploring the hard-edged possibilities within rock.

Ramagehead will be released on February 22 on CD / 180g Black vinyl LP / Digit
